Ten local philanthropists will find themselves standing 91 feet tall today when the Block at Orange gives them a special tribute.
Vertical, illuminated signs featuring residents who dedicate themselves to charity will be lighted during a ceremony. Mall officials also will donate $10,000 to each of their charities.
Featured “Local Heroes” include Jon Wagner Holtz, founder of Kids Konnected; Kelly Hill, an activist for cancer charities; and Bill Graves, a volunteer with Court Appointed Special Advocates.
Other heroes are Marianne Gillispie, who works with the Abuse Services Team; David W. Wilson, a behind-the-scenes benefactor; and Beverly Nestande, a community volunteer.
Also to be featured are Betty Zearing, a volunteer for Orange Elderly Services; Mai Cong, founder of Vietnamese Community of Orange County Inc.; and Regina Markwardt, founder of Children’s Connection Preschool for foster children. And Dan Harney, executive director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was also chosen as a hero.
The ceremony takes place at 6:30 p.m. at the Block, 1 City Blvd. West.
