Mexico Travel Tips

I found the article “Crime in Mexico: Is Risk Real or Exaggerated?” (Travel Insider, Nov. 15) interesting and fairly accurate. I travel to Mexico City quite often on business and want to add a few safety tips of my own.
First of all, I always take advantage of the two good hotels that are attached directly to the airport: the Marriott and the Hilton. It’s possible to walk straight from your gate to your hotel without requiring a taxi or any other interaction with transportation. And your chances of being robbed from a rental car given to you by a hotel doorman are virtually nil. Also, I sometimes use the same driver and car for the entire week. Two or three days of transportation this way costs less than $100.
The second tip is to buy a cheap watch and a small wallet. Don’t take your Rolex or a bunch of credit cards!
