Defending champion Mariel Ettinger of Oregon and Joshua Rohantinsky of Utah are regarded as favorites in today’s West regional high school cross-country championships at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
This is the first time since 1980 that the meet has not been run at Woodward Park in Fresno.
The top eight finishers in the seeded boys’ and girls’ races qualify for the national championships in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., on Dec. 12. The girls’ race starts at 1:15 p.m., the boys’ at 1:45.
The girls’ race features six of last year’s top eight finishers.
Rohantinsky finished fourth in last year’s boys’ race.
