Ramirez, Foss Chosen to Play on Under-20 Soccer Team

Cal State Fullerton’s Ray Ramirez and Dana Point’s Byron Foss, who a freshman goalkeeper for Southern Methodist last season, were selected to play for the U.S. under-20 men’s soccer team. Foss played for Santa Margarita High.
The U.S. team will take part in a six-day training camp next week in Richmond, Va., where the United States will meet Jamaica on Dec. 12.

Kim Engesser of Huntington Beach was named Friday to the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America’s NCAA Division I women’s soccer All-America first team.
Engesser, a senior forward at Nebraska, played for Ocean View High.

Laguna Beach’s Carrie Zeller has been selected to first-team American Volleyball Coaches Assn. Division III All-American.
Zeller is a junior outside hitter on the women’s volleyball team at Juniata College in Huntington, Pa.
Laguna Niguel’s Leslie Punelli, a sophomore outside hitter at UC San Diego who played for Dana Hills High, was selected to the second team.

The Zodiac will hold tryouts for its upcoming professional soccer season Dec. 19-20 at the Dan Young Soccer Complex in Santa Ana. Tryouts will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The tryouts are open to the public, but interested players must fax a resume to the Zodiac office (949-348-4601) by Dec. 11.
