Corona del Mar’s Mang Quits as Girls’ Coach

Tim Mang, who led the Corona del Mar girls’ tennis team to a Southern Section Division I title in 1997, is stepping down after four seasons. Mang said he wants to devote more time to developing an All-American team for high school tennis players.
“I’ve been thinking about leaving all year,” Mang said. “The program is going good now. I hope they can remain competitive.”
Mang’s teams were 74-12 and won two Sea View League titles. He was 7-1 against rival Newport Harbor and 4-0 against Dana Hills. The Sea Kings’ section title is the only one won by a team other than Palos Verdes Peninsula in the last eight years.
Mang, who teaches at Edison High, has coached the boys’ team at Corona del Mar for six seasons. He said he will remain in that position for at least one more season.
