Holidays This Week

Buddhists and Catholics are among the faithful celebrating holidays this week.
Bodhi Day, observed by Buddhists on Tuesday, marks the day that Prince Siddhartha Gautama of India found the answer that ended his religious quest for an explanation of the world’s suffering.
The prince, who later in life was referred to as Buddha, tried Hinduism and other practices before enlightenment came to him.
Tuesday also is the day Catholics observe the Immaculate Conception. It marks not the conception of Jesus, but rather that of Mary, who was born without original sin because God chose her to bear Jesus, said Msgr. Daniel Murray of the Diocese of Orange.
To observe this day, Catholics are bound to attend mass on Monday or Tuesday.
