24 Arrested in Series of Anti-Gang Sweeps

A series of anti-gang sweeps across Oxnard that started late last week has so far resulted in one felony arrest, 23 misdemeanor arrests and 107 interrogations of suspected gang members, authorities said.
Additionally, 17 street terrorism notices were handed out to suspected gang members during the sweeps, which were sparked by a Jan. 21 march by dozens of youths from La Colonia to south Oxnard.
The disturbance ended when police stepped in and dispersed the crowd, Oxnard Police Sgt. Charles Hookstra said.
The four multi-jurisdictional operations were carried out over three days. During the sweeps--conducted Thursday, Friday and Saturday--eight youths were cited and released in suspected curfew violations. Others were arrested in suspected probation violations.
Of the 24 arrests, 13 people were taken into custody following Thursday night’s raid, with the balance arrested during subsequent sweeps.
