What About the Crisis in Orange County?

“More Help on the Way” (Jan. 13) stated among other things: “President Clinton and congressional leaders of both parties promised (Jan. 12) ‘to do what is necessary to restore financial confidence in Mexico’ as Clinton proposed at least $25 billion in loan guarantees to prop up the peso and head off a deeper economic crisis.”
How does the new Republican leadership in good conscience participate in such a move when Orange County, a known Republican stronghold, is not heading for an economic crisis but is deeply into one, while not 1 cent of badly needed help of loan guarantees to stabilize our local economy has yet to be offered. Indeed, charity should start at home!
