According to David C. Whitney’s “The American Presidents,” “because he was in Europe, (Thomas Jefferson) took no part in the writing of the new United States Constitution.”
How odd, then, to see the Constitution, instead of the Declaration of Independence (which Jefferson did author), displayed sideways across the advertisement for the Merchant Ivory production of “Jefferson in Paris” in “Sneaks ‘95” (Jan. 22)!
