Company Aids Theater Group

Who: McDonnell Douglas employees

Contribution: The aircraft company’s nonprofit Employees Community Fund has awarded a $35,000 grant to the STOP-GAP Theatre Co. in Santa Ana. The theater group will use the funding for a new program called SCRAPBOOK, in which 82 countywide drama workshops and presentations will be conducted for seniors, care-givers and senior services staff. *

Hospital Auxiliary Honors 2 Workers

Who: Marty Coombs of Lake Forest and Gisela Black of Laguna Niguel

Contribution: The two have been named honorary members of the Auxiliary of Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo for their many hours of volunteer service. Coombs has donated more than 11,000 hours in her 16 years with the auxiliary. She manages the hospital gift shop, which supports scholarships for students pursuing medically related careers. Black has been an auxiliary member for 13 years, donating 4,500 hours of service. She is the auxiliary’s service coordinator and has volunteered in the patient and family services department. Be a Role Model for New Parents

The Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Center of Orange County is seeking volunteers to act as role models for first-time parents in the Welcome Baby program. Aides provide guidance and training in child care and child development. There is a critical need for Spanish-speaking volunteers who can travel to cities in central and north Orange County. A volunteer training session will be held on Thursday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Child Abuse Prevention Center, 2482 Newport Blvd., Suite 7, Costa Mesa. Information: (714) 722-1107.*

Finance Board Has 2 Openings

Huntington Beach is looking for two people who have extensive financial experience or an interest in municipal budgets to serve on the Finance Board. There are two vacancies on the seven-member board. The board reviews and makes recommendations regarding fiscal policies, annual financial audit, debt management, capital improvement plans, long-term financial plans, new and increased revenue sources and proposed state and federal legislation that impacts the city.
