Mater Dei’s Bruce Rollinson has been named coach of the California team in the 44th Shrine All-Star football game, Nate Grosher, the game’s managing director, said Wednesday.
The game will be played against a Texas All-Star team at 7 p.m. on July 22 at Cal State Fullerton.
The game was played between Northern and Southern California all-stars the last 43 seasons.
“The attendance had dropped off, so we decided we needed something to perk this game up,” Grosher said.
Rollinson guided Mater Dei to the Southern Section Division I title this season. The California team will feature 35 of the state’s top players.
