Hilton, Paramount on a Star Trek Mission: Paramount Parks, the theme park division of media giant Viacom Inc., and Hilton Hotels Corp. said they will build a $75-million Star Trek entertainment center at the Las Vegas Hilton. Visitors to Star Trek: The Experience, to be built on 50,000 square feet north of the hotel, will use interactive video and virtual reality stations to participate in simulated space missions. The project marks Paramount’s entry into the gambling market. It is scheduled to open in December, 1996, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the debut of the “Star Trek” television show.
