SALT LAKE CITY — Karl Malone scored 28 points and the Utah Jazz put together an 18-4 run in the final 4 1/2 minutes Monday night to defeat the Dallas Mavericks, 116-111, for their ninth consecutive victory.
“We never got down, never got upset, and just kept telling ourselves that we could do this,” said Antoine Carr of the Jazz, who scored 22 points. “Our defensive effort wasn’t as good today as it should have been. But we got it done in the end.”
Jim Jackson led the Mavericks with 34 points.
NBA Note
Antonio Harvey of the Lakers was named as a replacement for teammate Eddie Jones in the NBA slam-dunk competition to be held next month in Phoenix. Jones withdrew because of a hip injury, although he will still play in the rookie game.
