Genetically Modified Tomato OKd: DNA Plant Technology Inc. said it has clearance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to sell the tomato, which will be marketed under the Endless Summer brand name by the Oakland firm’s FreshWorld Farms unit. Distribution will be expanded later this year, said DNA Plant, which plans to begin test marketing in March. The company said the tomato ripens slowly, so it can reach supermarket shelves in peak condition without special handling. It will be DNA Plant’s first genetically modified product to reach market.
