Labor Group Sues State Board: A group representing labor organizations and injured workers filed a federal lawsuit demanding that California’s Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board set safety standards to minimize the risk of work-related injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome. In November, the state board rejected regulations that would have amounted to the nation’s first comprehensive ergonomics program. The lawsuit asks the District Court of Appeals in Sacramento to order the board to establish such a program. “We want to make the government wake up to the fact that they have a responsibility to the workers of this state and can’t drag their feet,” said Frances Schreiberg, an Oakland attorney for the plaintiffs.
