Fresh Snow Closes Interstate 5 Near Gorman

The lingering remnants of a cold, high-altitude weather system dropped rain and hail on some of the Southland’s foothill communities and enough snow on the surrounding mountains to close Interstate 5 in the Gorman area Monday night.
The California Highway Patrol said the state’s principal north-south artery was closed for 45 miles from Lake Hughes Road to Lavall Road about 8:30 p.m.
Earlier in the evening, the CHP had been escorting cars along one lane of the freeway through Tejon Pass in the Tehachapi Mountains because of the icy conditions.
The National Weather Service said skies in the Los Angeles Basin should be partly cloudy today, with gusty northwest winds and high temperatures in the mid-50s to mid-60s. Overnight lows were expected to drop to near freezing in the coldest areas.
