Deputies Suspect Bomb Report a Hoax

A sheriff’s bomb squad detective was dispatched to Moorpark on Monday after an anonymous caller reported finding a box of possible explosives in an open field, but the incident may have been a hoax, authorities said.
Deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, responding to the call about 11:20 a.m., discovered an open cardboard box containing about 11 empty, metal carbon dioxide containers in a field at the south end of Moorpark Avenue.
Each cylinder contained a fuse and a piece of clay-like material that had apparently been formed to look like a plastic explosive, according to sheriff’s report.
Detective Joseph Braga of the bomb squad collected the objects for analysis and assessment.
