Richard Dreyfuss Injured as Car Hits Pole in Studio City

Academy Award-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss was hospitalized Sunday after his car crashed into a pole on a busy stretch of Ventura Boulevard in Studio City, authorities said.
The 47-year-old actor’s black Lexus ran into a light pole, Los Angeles police said. No other cars were involved in the 3:20 p.m. accident.
Dreyfuss--who complained of pains in his chest, stomach and arm--was admitted to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he was in stable condition, hospital spokeswoman Kathy Mitchell said. He was kept overnight for observation. Mitchell said Dreyfuss’ pains may have been caused by the seat-belt restraint he used and the air bag that inflated.
Police say there was no evidence that drugs or alcohol were involved.
In 1982, Dreyfuss was arrested on suspicion of cocaine possession after his car overturned. He pleaded not guilty and entered a drug-treatment program.
