Cypress residents are up in arms about, of all things, a carpet warehouse.
A citizens’ group announced recently that it was targeting Mayor Cecilia L. Age and Councilwoman Gail H. Kerry for recall because of their actions in approving a controversial warehouse in town.
Residents who live near the site opposed the warehouse project.
In rebuttal to the recall announcement, Age said the proposed warehouse would be a badly needed tax source for the city, expected to bring in up to $1.2 million a year.
Age added, “In view of the county’s bankruptcy, the city badly needs this income.”
Today
Chapman University will honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a candlelight vigil at 4:45 p.m. in front of Hashinger Hall.
Participants in today’s ceremony will sing about civil rights.
Candles will be provided, along with a piece of paper with an adjective that describes King.
The vigil will be moved inside in case of rain.
