Pepperdine Falls Short Again, 72-59

Center Jumoke Horton scored a career-high 20 points and had seven rebounds to lead St. Mary’s to a 72-59 West Coast Conference victory over Pepperdine at Moraga on Saturday night.
Pepperdine, 4-10 overall and 0-2 in the WCC, made only 33.3% of its shots after making 30.8% in Friday night’s 67-50 loss to Santa Clara.
“We got outplayed in every phase of the game tonight and once again struggled with our shooting,” Coach Tony Fuller said.
After making only 21.4% of its shots in the first half and falling behind at halftime, 37-21, Pepperdine cut its deficit to 56-47 when reserve guard Khary Hervey made two free throws with 6:48 to play.
But St. Mary’s (6-7, 1-2) answered with a a 12-2 run.
Guard Gerald Brown scored 20 points and forward Monte Marcaccini had 12 points and nine rebounds for Pepperdine, which is 0-2 in conference play for the first time in eight years.
For St. Mary’s all-conference guard Chris Johnson scored 16 points and forward Brent Farris had 15 points and six rebounds.
