From Times Staff and Wire Reports
One teen-ager was killed and two others were missing after they were swept away by a flooded creek. The floods, caused by up to five inches of rain in western North Carolina, also forced dozens of people to flee their homes. Roads were closed in several counties. The body of the teen-ager was recovered just before dark along Wilson Creek in Caldwell County, where the three were last seen, authorities said. Witnesses said the teen-agers were walking on a footbridge over the creek when they were swept away, Caldwell County officials said.
