Nation IN BRIEF : NATIONWIDE : Drive to Promote Affirmative Action

National civil rights leaders launched a campaign to convince Americans, and particularly California voters, that affirmative action is worth preserving and does not amount to reverse discrimination. But citing the conservative tilt of Congress and the Supreme Court, as well as the proposed California Civil Rights Initiative to strike down public sector affirmative action, speakers at a National Affirmative Action Summit sounded pessimistic about their prospects.
