A 14-year-old girl walking to school escaped a kidnaper who tried to force her into his truck Friday morning, police said.
The girl fled unhurt after the suspect tossed a blanket or towel over her head and then tried to get her into a Toyota pickup, said Sgt. Larry Bandy.
The girl, who was not identified, was walking on Orange Avenue about 6:15 a.m. when she was accosted near the intersection of Holder Street. She struggled free and ran across the street, Bandy said. She was believed to be a student at Cypress High School.
The would-be kidnaper, about 28 to 30 years old, drove off and was not found during a search of the area.
