Counting Violence

After reading Duane Clark’s riveting theory on the increasing level of violence in socially irresponsible films (“Adding Up a Tally on Violent Movies,” Saturday Letters, Jan. 7), I was terrified to learn Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction” has taken society to a violence level of 5.01. Yet, miraculously, Clark, himself a victim of “Pulp Fiction” and “75 years of violent cinema,” has not become a killer or ax murderer but a “writer-director.” How can this be?
I do thank Clark for his theories and views--for, in the unlikely event that I may have to make the difficult choice between viewing the latest Tarantino film or the latest Clark film, a coin toss will no longer be necessary.
