MIRACLE MILE : Classes on Helping Smokers Quit
- Share via
The American Lung Assn. is offering a two-day course to teach health care professionals and others how to counsel people to stop smoking.
The $135 program at the association’s offices here will also cover how to implement California’s new smoke-free workplace law, which went into effect Jan. 1.
The Jan. 31-Feb. 1 program is designed for doctors and nurses, employee relations specialists, educators and consultants. Participants must be entered by a sponsoring organization.
How do you get someone to stop smoking? “It depends on the individual,” said Andrew Weisser, a spokesman for the lung association.
“There are different tactics,” he said. “Some people use exercise. Some find a new hobby. We help people identify what’s going to work best for their own lives.”
For information on the training program, call Helen Bean, program manager, at (213) 935-5864.
