Eastern German Inflation Falls: Inflation in the region fell in 1994 to nearly the same level as in western Germany, a sign that economic integration is progressing, officials said. The Federal Statistics Office said prices rose by an average of 3.4% in the formerly communist region last year, compared to 3.0% in the west. The disparity since the two Germanies united in 1990 had been much wider, with 1993 inflation averaging 8.8% in the east and 4.2% in the west.
