U.S.-Russian aviation conference: Air safety in Russia will be examined at the first Russian-American Aerospace and Aviation Conference today through Wednesday at the Town & Country Hotel in San Diego. Discussion will focus on the urgent improvements needed in the Russian air transport system, according to the show’s organizers. Supported by the Russian Department of Air Transport and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, the show will host U.S. and Russian government officials who will discuss Russian commercial aviation, which last October received “minimally passing marks” for safety from a joint review group. The industry is going through a difficult transition. Since the breakup of the former Soviet Union, Russia has gone from just one commercial carrier to 400.
