SANTA MONICA : Park Reopening Delayed a Week
- Share via
The reopening of Lincoln Park, originally scheduled for Jan. 7, has been delayed to next Saturday in anticipation of better weather.
Lincoln Park has been closed during a months-long improvement project. The reopened park will offer roque, horseshoe and shuffleboard courts, two full-court basketball courts, new play equipment and new park seating.
The reopening celebration is to begin at 11 a.m. Entertainment, including puppet shows and music, will continue until 2 p.m. The public will then be invited to take part in a workshop on reconstruction of the Miles Memorial Playhouse.
Lincoln Park, a 5.3-acre lot at Lincoln and Wilshire boulevards, was deeded to the city in 1892 with a stipulation that it forever remain a public park. Before it was closed last year for improvements, it had become the site of a large encampment of homeless people--and a source of controversy over city policies regarding the homeless.
