Season’s Gratings

It is with a sense of shock and disbelief that I read the article about Paul Provenza by Joe Rhodes in the TV Times (Dec. 11).
Provenza is quoted as having once opened a (comic stand-up) broadcast during the holidays by “wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hanukkah for those of you who killed our Lord.”
The Jewish community, both individually and collectively, has suffered for centuries because of this “Big Lie.” Constant repetition has almost led to an aura of respectability to those who repeat it, even to a minor actor like Provenza. This viewer (make that former viewer) of “Northern Exposure” (CBS) is not laughing.
