A Little Help Behind the Wheel
Driving in a foreign country is tough enough, even when there are pictograph signs alerting motorists to cross traffic, railroad crossings and speed limits. The task becomes tougher when the signs have no pictures. Enter Philip Grosse, a retired foreign-language teacher who has written two modest guides to worded traffic signs in French and Spanish. “English-Spanish Road Signs for American Tourists” and “French-English Road Signs” each contain about 300 alphabetical lists of phrases. To obtain copies, send $1 apiece and a stamped, self-addressed envelope to Grosse at 5055 N. 83rd St., Scottsdale, Ariz. 85250.
