BUENA PARK — A gasoline-powered generator exploded in the garage of a two-story duplex early Thursday, injuring an 18-year-old man and causing about $50,000 in damage, firefighters and neighbors said.
Jacob Wadkins suffered second-degree burns over 5% of his body, including his right hand and arm, about 2:30 a.m. in the 8500 block of Bel Air Street, said fire spokeswoman Emmy Day. Wadkins was adding gasoline to the generator when it exploded, said neighbor Glenda Fries.
He was treated at West Anaheim Medical Center, Day said.
Wadkins was thought to be visiting one of the residents in the duplex, Fries said. No other injuries were reported.
It took about 20 firefighters half an hour to control the blaze, which was contained to the garage, Day said.
