So, you’ve always wanted to drive in the Indy 500? “The Reactor” may be the closest you get, so take note: The five-minute combination laser-video theater-thrill ride is one of the rides and activities in store for visitors to the 1995 L.A. Auto Show, at the first-ever Motorsports Expo, in Petrie Hall.
Other attractions include a virtual reality simulated car race (you steer, but don’t move), a slot car track (you move, but don’t steer) and radio-controlled cars. Fees range from $2-$5.
A returning feature of the auto show is the parts and accessories area, where you can purchase the latest in gadgets, car wax, custom rims and other looks-enhancing items.
Of course, there’s also the more than 1,000 1995 automobiles, foreign and domestic; concept and electric cars that will be parked throughout the L.A. Convention Center though Jan. 15.
Hours are Saturdays, 10 a.m.-10:30 p.m.; Sundays, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; weekdays, 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Convention Center, 1201 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles. $6; seniors, weekdays, $4; children 12 and younger, free with an adult; parking, $6. Discounts are available from car dealerships and 7-Elevens. (213) 741-1151, Ext. 1.
