BEIT HANOUN, Gaza Strip — Israeli troops shot three Palestinian police officers to death in the Gaza Strip on Monday in the worst such clash since Palestinians won limited self-rule there, a Palestinian police officer said.
Soldiers also killed three armed Palestinians in the occupied West Bank in two separate conflicts Monday.
The Palestinian police officer said that Israeli soldiers, patrolling near Beit Hanoun, shot at Palestinian police, apparently mistaking them for militants. Israel Radio said the soldiers fired their guns after shots were fired at them.
The police officer, who witnessed the shooting, said Palestinian police were still searching the Beit Hanoun area for additional casualties.
