MAKING IT IN O.C. : Firm Is Getting a Lock on Security Industry
- Share via
Computerized Security Systems Inc. has been making locks in Costa Mesa since 1978, when it opened its doors as Winfield Locks Inc., a manufacturer of traditional metal locks used by the hotel industry. Winfield was renamed Computerized Security 10 years later, when the company began to manufacture electronic door locking systems. The company has 200 employees worldwide, including 80 at the plant in Costa Mesa. The company still manufactures traditional metal locks, but nearly 80% of its business involves locking units that incorporate microchips. Hotels increasingly prefer computerized keys because the units can easily be modified to enhance security. Computerized Security is owned by Masco Corp. in Madison Heights, Mich.
