MID-CITY : Halloween Havens Offered to Children

No child likes to get all dressed up with nowhere to go on Halloween, but parents are often reluctant to let their youngsters go trick-or-treating for fear of their safety.
The following city-sponsored activities can help relieve parents’ Halloween jitters while providing their little monsters with a frightful range of fun things to do:
The Police Department’s Rampart Division is hosting its fourth annual haunted house on the grounds of the police station at 2710 W. Temple St. Free to the public, the haunted house opened Friday and is open nightly through Halloween from 6 to 10 p.m. Information: (213) 485-4080.
Another free Police Department-hosted haunted house and carnival will be held on Halloween at the Wilshire Division station, 4861 Venice Blvd., from 6 to 9 p.m. Information: (213) 485-7992.
Ardmore Recreation Center, 3250 San Marino St., will hold a Halloween carnival from noon to 8 p.m. with games, food and a preschoolers’ costume parade. Information: (213) 383-7549.
Normandie Recreation Center, 1550 S. Normandie Ave., will have a haunted house, costume parade and carnival games from 5 to 8 p.m. Information: (213) 737-1181.
Shatto Recreation Center, 3191 West 4th St., will have carnival games and a costume parade with prizes from 4 to 7 p.m. Information: (213) 386-8877.
Toberman Recreation Center, 1725 Toberman Ave., will have a Halloween carnival and haunted house, along with a costume parade and games, from 3 to 7 p.m. Information: (213) 485-6896.
Queen Anne Recreation Center, 1240 West Blvd., will have a haunted house, a costume parade and carnival games from 3 to 6 p.m. Information: (213) 934-0130.
Seniors celebrating Halloween can do so at the MacArthur Senior Citizens’ Center, 607 S. Park View St., which will hold a luncheon and dance with music and games from 1 to 4 p.m. Information: (213) 383-0496.
