BACK IN COURT: Sure, they’ve been overshadowed by O. J. But Lyle and Erik Menendez--remember them?--will be back in the spotlight today. Superior Court Judge Stanley M. Weisberg will hold a hearing to decide how many juries will hear the second trial, when it will start and where it will be--Van Nuys or downtown. . . . The brothers, charged with murder in the 1989 shotgun slayings of their parents, remain in County Jail without bail.
TO DIE IN RESEDA? Tom Petty put Reseda on the map five years ago with “Free Fallin.” Now the town is back on the airwaves in Soul Coughing’s “Screenwriter’s Blues.” . . . The song, getting play on KROQ-FM, includes the lyrics: “We are all in some way or another going to Reseda someday to die.” But band member M. Doughty, who wrote the song, says he had never visited Reseda until recently: “It just had a certain musical ding to it.”
PRO PROSPECT: One dunk shot made him a legend, but it’s his play on the defensive line that might make him a fortune. CSUN’s Oscar Wilson, above, has attracted attention from NFL scouts (C8). . . . Wilson became a hero in Santa Ana in 1988 with a spectacular last-second dunk against Simi Valley.
SAFER SEX: Teen-agers are finally getting the message about practicing safe sex, says the Valley Community Clinic’s Connie Kruzan. She was responding to a report this week by the National Center for Health Statistics that shows the birthrate among 15- to 17-year-old girls fell by 2% in 1992 after a 27% increase between 1986 and 1991. . . . “I’m not surprised,” Kruzan said. “We see more and more kids saying they’ve been using condoms.”
FRANKENSTEIN: Frankenstein is alive and well, and works in the Valley. But don’t panic. This Frankenstein is no freak. He’s a financial planner for a local insurance company, and his first name is Bill (E1). . . . The Times tracked Frankenstein down and found that he’s used to the attention: “Oh, I used to get in a lot of fights when I was a kid. You know, they’d yell, ‘Frankenstein monster!’ ”
