WESTMINSTER : School Reopening Celebration Tonight
- Share via
About 500 residents, community leaders and school personnel will celebrate the reopening of Neomia B. Willmore Elementary School in a ceremony tonight, a district spokeswoman said.
The 10-acre campus was closed several years ago as a result of school boundary changes, and leased to a court-reporting school. Earlier this year, the Westminster School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to reopen the site in September to accommodate about 540 children who live within walking distance and who had been bused to other schools, said spokeswoman Audrey Brown.
The district has spent $1.5 million to renovate the building and campus with new roofing, floors, fencing, carpeting, asphalt and irrigation systems, Brown said.
The celebration, which is open to the public, will be held at the campus, 7122 Maple St., at 6 p.m. Festivities will include multicultural performances, refreshments and a tribute to Neomia Willmore, former district trustee for whom the school as named.
