Campaign Spending
Since 62% of voters polled think it is fine with them for wealthy candidates to use their own money to buy elections (Times Poll, Sept. 15), then why not hold an auction for political offices and do away with elections altogether? Think of the money to be saved!
Instead of spending all that money (it must be hundreds of millions all over the U.S.) on nasty campaigns, the funds raised from the auction could go toward paying off the national debt.

* The amount of money spent on political advertising is viscerally repugnant. How does one start an initiative in California to ban or severely restrict political advertising on radio, TV, billboards and those pesky yard signs?
