The golden orange is graying.
The number of county residents 65 or older increased by more than a third between 1980 and 1990, according to the U.S. Census.
The county is home to Leisure World retirement communities in Seal Beach and Laguna Hills.
But the growing senior citizen population is being felt around the county. Several cities including Irvine have built senior centers and are beefing up services for the elderly.
Today
Children are invited to create their own Halloween masks at the Huntington Beach Mall.
Organizers said the fair gives children a chance to be creative and make their own trick-or-treat costumes.
The free event, sponsored by the mall’s Kid’s Klub, is open to children age 3 to 12. Mask-making activities will be from 4 to 7 p.m.
