MISSION VIEJO — Seven people were injured early Sunday when a suspected drunk driver ran a red light and collided with another car, authorities said.
Manuel D. Masariego, 24, of San Juan Capistrano, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving after his 1978 Cadillac, northbound on Muirlands Boulevard, smashed into an Oldsmobile, eastbound on Alicia Parkway, shortly after midnight, said Lt. William Francis of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Masariego, who sustained facial and internal injuries, was in good condition Sunday at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, a nursing supervisor said. All four of his passengers, whose names were not released, were injured as well.
The Oldsmobile driver suffered head and ankle injuries and a passenger suffered broken ribs and internal injuries.
The victims were transported to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills and Mission Hospital. All were expected to survive.
