MISSION VIEJO : PTA Council Opposes El Toro Ballot Measure
- Share via
The Saddleback PTA Council has voted to oppose a ballot initiative calling for the conversion of the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station into a commercial airport.
The group represents PTA schools in Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Hills, Foothill Ranch, Rancho Santa Margarita, Portola Hills and Trabuco Canyon.
The group said that the impact of building a commercial airport at the Marine Corps base has not been studied adequately, and that noise and pollution could affect nearby schools and children.
Supporters of the initiative, Measure A, say a commercial airport will create new jobs and provide an economic boost to the county.
The Capistrano PTA Council has also voted to oppose the ballot initiative.
