Orange County Jobless Rates Rises: California’s Employment Development Department reported that Orange County’s unemployment rate edged up in September to 6%, from 5.9% in August, with several key sectors showing job losses. Overall, the county saw an expansion of 5,400 jobs last month from August, all of it seasonal, as an army of teachers and other school workers returned to their jobs. But a decline in payroll employment in manufacturing, retail trade, finance and real estate helped to lift up the county’s jobless rate in September. The jobless rate increase contrasted with significant declines for the nation and the state.
