Bush’s Turn: Former President George Bush opened “Saturday Night Live” with a few shots at Dana Carvey’s impersonations of him during his years in the White House. “Do I have any hard feelings about that? Yes I do, and I’ll have my revenge when the time is right,” Bush joked. “Not now. Wouldn’t be prudent at this juncture. But revenge will be mine.” Bush, on tape from his home in Houston, declined to use the standard introductory line, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night.” He explained he was on tape and wasn’t in New York, and, anyway, the usual line was “just not something I do.” Carvey, who left the show in April, was a guest host Saturday.

Roseanne Gets Serious: Roseanne, who has told of being sexually abused as a child, donated $135,000 to Los Angeles-based “Children of the Night,” a nonprofit organization that works to rescue youngsters from life on the street. “Our society really has to come to grips with the results of child sexual abuse. . . . These children are American’s home-grown refugees. I’m glad I could help,” the sitcom star said.

Soaping Up: CBS will broadcast “50 Years of Soaps: An All-Star Celebration” on Oct. 27. Among those hosting the program are “The Young and the Restless” stars Melody Thomas Scott, Peter Bergman and Kristoff St. John; “General Hospital’s” Stuart Damon and Anthony Geary; “All My Children’s” James Mitchell; and Kristian Alfonso of “Days of Our Lives.” Others set to appear include “All-Star Favorites” Eileen Fulton (“As the World Turns”), Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth Hayes (“Days of Our Lives”), A Martinez (“Santa Barbara”), Kim Zimmer (“Guiding Light”), Victoria Wyndham (“Another World”) and Jacklyn Zeman (“General Hospital”).

Costners Divorcing: Actor Kevin Costner and his wife, Cindy, are divorcing after 16 years of marriage. The college sweethearts have three children. Costner, 39, has won seven Academy Awards, including best director for “Dances With Wolves,” and is currently filming the highly budgeted “Waterworld,” a futuristic “ ‘Road Warrior’ on the water” adventure. No reason was given for the split. “We did not come to this decision easily and on behalf of our entire family we ask to be allowed the dignity of sorting through this most painful part of our lives in private,” the couple said in a statement.

Family Trouble: Danny Aiello, who appeared in “Moonstruck” and “Do the Right Thing,” said he felt betrayed after learning his daughter-in-law stole more than $246,000 from his checking account. Heide Aiello, 28, was sentenced to five years’ probation on a theft charge and was ordered to pay $40 a week restitution to her in-laws, receive counseling and undergo periodic drug testing. Heide and Jaime Aiello are getting a divorce after five years of marriage. Outside the courthouse after sentencing, Aiello said: “I wanted her to go to jail. She deserved it.”

Suite Parting: Playwright Neil Simon has sent his disregards to Broadway with the announcement that his newest comedy, “London Suite,” will not be staged on the Great White Way when it opens in New York next year. “It’s just not economically viable for us to go to Broadway anymore,” Simon, 67, told the New York Times. Since “Come Blow Your Horn” in 1961, Simon has had 23 plays performed on Broadway but the playwright said his next Gotham opening will be Off-Broadway.

Tribute to Houdini: It’s no illusion--workers are repairing Harry Houdini’s vandalized grave site at Machpelah Cemetery in Ridgewood, Queens, N.Y., thanks to the magic of a $10,000 donation from David Copperfield. “I was shocked by the senselessness of the incident,” Copperfield said by phone from Den Haag, Holland, where he’s on tour. “What a terrible act of violence, to disturb the final resting place of such a great American legend.” Workers hope to have most of the repairs done by Halloween--the 68th anniversary of Houdini’s death.

Bad news for liberals: Rush Limbaugh has extended his contract with Multimedia Entertainment, Inc., meaning “Rush Limbaugh, the Television Show” will be around at least through the 1997-98 season. The series airs locally on KCAL-TV Channel 9, weeknights at 7:30. . . . Noted poet Maya Angelou will appear at the Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on Jan. 8 in “An Evening With Maya Angelou.” Angelou describes the appearance, which includes singing and dancing, as performance art. . . . The Los Angeles City Commission on Disability has given its annual Media Award to the syndicated TV show “The Crusaders,” citing the program’s “commitment to the disabled.” . . . Former “Saturday Night Live” star Julia Sweeney has been named honorary mayor of West Hollywood. Part of Sweeney’s duties will be to open West Hollywood’s annual Mardi gras-style Halloween Carnival. . . . Sylvester Stallone played golf with President Suharto in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was just a friendly game, officials said; they didn’t keep score. Stallone was in town for the opening of another Planet Hollywood restaurant, the 16th worldwide and the second in Asia. The chain is backed by such stars as Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore.
