Thanks but No Thanks to Auto-Pricing Probe

Thanks, but no thanks. Our federal government has announced that it plans to investigate the practice of car dealers who engage in the selling of their product for a non-negotiable price (“Justice Dept. Starts Probe of Auto Pricing,” Oct. 11). They believe this might be considered price fixing.

Yes, save us, please, from this unorthodox way of doing business. We, the public, would much rather fall into the den of a car dealer, and lest we really do our homework, pay thousands of dollars more than the ultra-sharp shopper who preceded us into that same dealership just hours ago.

After negotiations and the deal is done, we would proceed to the finance office and be offered undercoating, paint protection and a variety of unnecessary and costly additions.

“One price, take it or leave it!” Personally I might take it. Please protect us from the philosophy of these innovators.
