PALME D’ERROR
On Oct. 2 you printed a For the Record correcting a reference to the number of American films that have won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
Reader Steve Barr, who pointed out your error, should have checked his facts. He neglected to mention that Francis Ford Coppola’s “Apocalypse Now” won at Cannes in 1979.
Who is he to correct anybody?

The list of winners we published, compiled by The Times’ library and movie staff, erred in omitting Coppola’s “Apocalypse Now.” Our apologies to readers Barr and Younger.
