THOUSAND OAKS : 5 Donors Nominated for Art Center Board

Tapping well-connected fund-raisers and arts boosters, the Alliance for the Arts has nominated five donors to serve on the Board of Governors of Thousand Oaks’ new performing arts center.

“We think this is a powerful group,” said William Bang, who chaired the nomination committee.

The best-known nominee, Charles Young, serves as chancellor and chief executive of UCLA. A resident of Lake Sherwood since 1990, Young is in charge of the college’s fund raising and endowment, and has helped develop theater programs at UCLA. Young and his wife, Susan, contributed $50,000 to the alliance’s endowment campaign.

Two other nominees have also donated $50,000 to the endowment: Albert Adam and Bert Greynald.

Adam, a Thousand Oaks resident for 17 years, chairs annual fund raising for the Conejo YMCA. He is a vice president and assistant manager at Prudential Securities in Thousand Oaks. Greynald joins the Civic Arts Plaza board after several years as a governor of the Los Angeles Music Center. A developer and longtime resident, Greynald is president of Morrison Homes.

A fourth nominee, Elaine Wooster, works as facilities and plant operations manager for the space shuttle main engine room at Rocketdyne, a division of Rockwell International.

In contrast to the big-business ties of her fellow nominees, Jeanne Stapp got the nod for her decades of work with the arts community. A member of the city’s Arts Commission for 12 years, Stapp has been pushing for an auditorium for nearly three decades.
