COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : USC : Safety Knight Played His Best Game

Safety Sammy Knight approached star level in the Trojans’ 27-20 victory at Stanford on Saturday.

Coach John Robinson has compared sophomore Knight to former Trojan secondary greats Ronnie Lott and Dennis Thurman, but until Saturday he didn’t always have his aggressive game under control.

But at Stanford, he had seven unassisted tackles and four assists.

Tailback Shawn Walters’ 234-yard game against Stanford was his second 200-yarder this season. He ran for 207 against Baylor Sept. 24.

Walters, with 712 yards, has a chance to become the first Trojan to register a 1,000-yard season since Mazio Royster in 1990 (1,168).

The NCAA season record for 200-yard games is eight, by USC’s Marcus Allen, in 1981.
