Capistrano Valley, Senior
Cross-country
After running his usual blistering first mile, Sanchez had no competition at the Orange County Championships Saturday at Irvine Regional Park. “I heard someone say he was in the 4:30s in the first mile, which is pretty scary for the other guys,” Capistrano Valley Coach Gary Gross said. “A lot of people think he’s being a maniac, but he’s comfortable going out that fast.” Sanchez finished the 3.1-mile course in 15:13 and won the race by 15 seconds. Sanchez, who won the Southern Section Division I-AA title last year, also ran 15:11 for three miles to help the Cougars to a dual-meet victory over San Clemente.
