VAN NUYS — A fire gutted a Japanese restaurant in Van Nuys Monday morning, causing $150,000 in damage but no injuries, authorities said.
Los Angeles Fire Department investigators said the blaze was started by combustible materials that were stored too close to a water heater in the back of the restaurant, said spokesman Brian Humphrey.
The fire broke out about 7:10 a.m. at Kyushu Ramen, located in a mini-mall at 15355 Sherman Way near Sepulveda Boulevard, Humphrey said.
The business was closed at the time of the fire, authorities said.
Firefighters put the blaze out in about 20 minutes and were able to prevent it from spreading, Humphrey said.
