Three people were killed Sunday in gang-related shootings, Los Angeles police said.
A transient, estimated to be 45 years old, was shot by an unidentified passenger in a car at Yucca Street and Wilcox Avenue in Hollywood about 1 a.m. when he and a group of gang members approached the vehicle and “exchanged words” with the occupants, according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement.
The car drove off and the transient died at a nearby hospital 30 minutes later.
An hour later, across town near Exposition Park, two youths were killed in a two-story apartment complex.
Residents near the building at 4036 Broadway Place heard gunshots and saw men and women hurrying from the scene, Officer Daniel Ruelas said. The body of Edgar Flores, 18, was found at the base of the stairs leading into the complex, with a single gunshot wound to the head. The bullet-riddled body of Rupert Lopez, 17, was found a few steps up, Ruelas said. Both were declared dead at the scene.
